Blenheim Palace

This famous palace is located just North of Oxford in Woodstock on the eastern edge of the Cotswolds.

It was built by Sir John Vanbrugh and given, as a gift for his victories over the French at Blenheim in 1704, to John Churchill - first Duke of Marlborough - by Queen Anne.

The grounds have been laid out by Capability Brown, including the lakes - created by the damming of the River Glyme.

Sir Winston Churchill was born at Blenheim in 1874 and is buried in the nearby Bladon church.
